Just recently I ran a competition with the aim of getting suggestions for a soon to be released WordPress theme. There was not much interest in the competition but the deadline has now come, and as promised, I have to decide on a winner. And the winner is…
Before I get to naming the winner please allow me to thank all those who took some time to to let me have their suggestions. My thanks also go to those who sent in suggestions via the contact form. Some of these ideas were great and will in fact be included in the new theme. Unfortunately the suggestions sent in this way could not included in the competition itself as it was stated that suggestions were to be made via comments to the original competition post.
Many people really thought “out of the box” and most of the ideas were just great. I must say, some of the ideas were ‘futuristic’ but these are the ideas I love. Why must we be bound by that which we have already? Unfortunately I could not consider some of the ideas for the following reasons:
- It was stated that the proposed theme would be a generic type of theme and some ideas would only only be applicable to a specific type of blog.
- Some ideas were feasible but the implementation of these would require changes to the WordPress core files. These ideas would have to be implemented in a plugin and not a theme. This could mean that you would find yourself changing files every time WordPress releases a new version.
- Some of the ideas have already been implemented via existing plugins.
- Some of the ideas had already been submitted by a previous commenter.
I could not find two individual winners so I had to settle on a single winner. This was not easy but in the end the winner is Margaret form Eyespi20.com
Well done Margaret and thanks for the good ideas. For your trouble you receive the following:
- A link back to your site on every copy of the new theme when it is released.
- A customized version of either the ‘new’ theme or any other Nice2All theme. You can let me know what you would like changed (within reason of course) and I will make the changes for you. You can make use of this offer at any time or you could transfer the offer to someone else (maybe your own competition etc.).
Just when will the new theme be released? This is still impossible to determine as a user options page within the back end of WordPress is planned for the theme. The functions required to do this have changed in Wordpress 2.7. I will have to wait to see if the options page actually works in the final version of the release.
My thanks again to all the entrants and congratulations to the winner.
Till next time.

I’ll have to do some thinking, but we have a bit, right? ‘Cause you’re still finalizing stuff for the next version of WP.

I’ll work on putting together some ideas this weekend and we’ll discuss them…

Congratulations Margaret!
Congratulations to Lyndi for getting the wonderful ideas!
Thanks Arun.
They say there is a pretty easy way to adapt WordPress themes to work with b2evolution. I found one site where they load themes for both. Maybe you will consider making your theme available for more than just WordPress.
Thanks for the tip, I will check it out. The problem with something like this is the time it will take to learn a new blogging platform. Joomla does look interesting though, maybe sometime down the line. Thanks for the comment.
